How long will I have to wait to get my new Teric?

The scuba community received the news of the launching of the Teric with a level of enthusiasm we were not expecting. Early in the morning of our Teric launch I had a casual conversation with our founder, Bruce Partridge. Bruce was asking me if I thought we would sell more than x amount of Terics in the first month. I said it was very possible because that number divided among the number of dealers that we have around the world meant that each dealer would purchase a reasonable amount of units.

To our surprise, in only 3 days Teric orders surpassed the number Bruce and I were discussing. We heard the same story from dealers around the world repeated multiple times: their first tentative order was quickly oversold and now they needed a new order, twice as large. Things snowballed from there. Lead times were growing at an unprecedented rate. We were not expecting demand levels to go so high for the Teric.

What does this mean to you as a future Teric owner?

If your dive shop placed an order early after our announcement, and your dive buddy placed an order with your dive shop soon after, your dive buddy might have a Teric en route as we speak. Perhaps she's already received her Teric. After seeing it on her arm, you decided you want one too. But now, your shop tells you will have to wait months before you get your Teric. Please be gentle with your dive shop. I'm sure they would be delighted to sell you one and deliver it immediately if they could.

 

What is Shearwater doing about this?

At Shearwater we really, really care about our customers. It is our first core value. We try very hard to live by it every day. We are divers ourselves and we know how frustrating it can be to go to that Roatan dive trip without a piece of kit you ordered sometime ago. So to alleviate the Teric deficit, we are increasing our production capacity and maximizing production lines. We are also doing lots of overtime. We are coordinating our supply chains to ensure no shortages. Our employee roster is about to be more than triple what it used to be 4 years ago. The end result we are aiming for is to promptly supply a Teric to any diver who wants to buy it within a matter of days, just like we are able to do with a Perdix order.

 

What can you do?

If you have finalized your purchase decision, please place an order with your dealer as soon as you can and instruct him to place his order with us as soon as possible so that you establish your place in the queue. At the moment of order placement your dive shop will receive the lead time estimate. Lead times can be volatile as production ramps up and as new orders are received. In the meantime, keep in mind that other Shearwater computers like the Perdix, Perdix AI and Petrel are readily available. We are very appreciative of your patience and do not take lightly the vote of confidence that the scuba community has placed on us by making us a leading brand in the industry.

      Hello, Adrien. When a dive shop has placed multiple orders at different times there is no way for us to know which one of those corresponds to yours. Your dive shop will know which one corresponds to yours. If they haven’t done so yet, please ask them to find an estimate from us that corresponds to your order. Sorry we couldn’t be more helpful on this.

    I own another one of shearwater products and i love it. You guys are going an amazing job developing, distributing and advertising. I live in Bermuda where there is no dealer but Im ready to travel to States to bring new Teric with me to the island.
    Its amazing how well is new computer designed. Its a must for everyone in the industry!

    Ordered a teric a couple of weeks ago but as you describe in your article a lead time estimate cannot be given…. I am also reading that it could take over a couple of months.

    The shearwater is great and I allready own a beautifull Perdix. I know the Teric is a beautifull computer but waiting that long will not work for me.

      Hi, Daniel. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. Every week we produce more Terics, but we are not catching up to demand yet. Expanding long term production capacity is not something that happens overnight. It’ll be a while before we catch up. That said, shops around the world are consistently getting our shipments of Terics. Therefore wait times for any one particular end user do not necessarily have to be as long as the wait time a dive shop would experience if they were to place a fresh order with us today. It is very common for shops to order a few more units than what they have presold. So for brief periods of time any one given shop may have Terics available for immediate sale.         He Guys, Thank you for the effort to reply on my comment. I know you are doing all you can. Nobody wants to have a delivery time for this beautifull DC. Is there any way for the shop where I ordered it to provide me with an estimate? Your website claims that they should be able to do so but they tell me they cannot provide me with one?

          We do not know why your specific shop cannot provide you with an estimate. Shops do get an estimate from us when they place an order. From that estimate shops will know how to allocate the units they order to individual end users. Through this allocation they would be able to give end users an estimate. As the manufacturer, we are not privy to how shops allocate orders to their customers. There may be other reasons unknown to us that may prevent your dive shop from giving you an estimate.

    He Guys, problem solved! my own diveshop got a prognoses that it would take until November before they would receive a new Teric. I found another diveshop who had one in stock so i bought that one!!! Again thank you for the quick response and help!

    My Teric arrives tomorrow and I have been drilling through the manual for West Palm Beach next weekend. A feature I would love to see add would be waypoints. Be awesome for dives like the Zion train. Program all three boats direction with different color markers prior to dipping in the water. Oh, or maybe able to save the coordinates in the software and upload them when needed.

    I’ve just order my Teric and I can’t wait for it to arrive. I did have the Predator and up until now has been my favorite dive computer. I was just wondering if Shearwater will be making some sort of screen protector for the Teric?

      Hi, Jason. We do not sell Teric screen protectors. The screen on the Teric is made out of sapphire crystal. Sapphire crystal has a hardness of 9 Mohs, making it only slightly less hard than diamonds. An enterprising individual putting his mind to it might be able to get it scratched. So, while it is possible to get it scratched, sapphire crystal has a good track record at being scratch resistant. That said, some of our dealers do sell them as a third party accessory.
