Intermediate Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, testing, and manufacturing of mechanical components for scuba diving computer and rebreather accessories. Emphasis will be placed on achieving maximum reliability, while keeping parts manufacturable and affordable. This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Research and develop new technology for scuba diving computers and accessories
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA)
  • Produce technical drawings and build prototypes
  • Source components from suppliers
  • Develop test procedures, test components and assemblies
  • Analyze and document test results
  • Produce assembly documentation for manufacturing
  • Carry out sustaining engineering on existing products

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience as a Mechanical Engineer in an R&D environment developing commercial products
  • Progressive experience in mechanical design, specializing in high precision machined and injection molded components
  • Competent with 3D modelling (Solidworks)
  • Proficient with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experienced with DFMEA and PFMEA techniques
  • Experienced with quality control systems and engineering documentation standards
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Desire to contribute to organisation beyond core requirements
  • Effective technical problem solving and project management skills; capable of multi-tasking and moving several different agendas to successful conclusion
  • Top-notch interpersonal and teamwork skills with strong customer service orientation
  • Proven track record troubleshooting mechanical design issues to achieve quality results
  • Flair for Industrial Design
  • Familiarity with techniques for highly accelerated stress testing

Beneficial Experience

  • Scuba diving or interest in company sponsored scuba training
  • Prior experience in a consumer electronic products environment
  • Design of parts for underwater environments
  • Solidworks Plastics and Solidworks Simulation
