RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create innovation and champion production process improvement:

  • Take active role in designing and producing new line designs, workstation designs, space layout, ergonomic set-ups, new jigs, work instructions and equipment use
  • Increase automation on the line to reduce manual cycle time through use of PLC or equivalent

Hands-on role:

  • Act as technical lead for Production-related issues
  • Increase robustness of testing procedures during WIP and 8D quality initiatives
  • Ensure all Production Engineering-related activities for ECN/RTMs get completed on time
  • Act as liaison between Design Engineering and production floor for new product introduction and improvement projects

Complete management responsibilities for Production Engineering staff:

  • Hold individual coaching meetings every 3-4 weeks
  • Complete annual reviews for your staff
  • Complete annual budget for your area
  • Provide prioritization and direction for Production Engineering staff
  • Set quarterly rocks and hold staff accountable to them
  • Provide discipline to Production Engineering staff through performance improvement or disciplinary actions processes as needed
  • Act as trainer and mentor for Production Engineering staff

Ensure Production Engineering department represents manufacturing for new product development beginning at pilot build:

  • Assemble pilot units
  • Drafting initial work instructions
  • Training staff on assembly processes
  • Participate/lead PFMEA sessions
  • Ensure Production Engineering department provides manufacturing support for all products after release

Other:

  • Ensure regular time studies completed by Production Engineering department on all major product lines and provide updated routing information to accounting department.
  • assist Engineering and Quality in creating and implementing CAPAs when necessary
  • communicate with Engineering when their resources are required to fix problems in Production
  • follow-up with Direct Production staff that implemented solutions have generated positive results
  • Report key metrics to Director of Operations
  • Cycle time (takt time) improvements
  • Yield improvements
  • Status of quarterly rocks
  • Ensure Production Engineering department completes maintenance and calibration of equipment as necessary
  • Organize and lead cross-departmental teams to drive continuous improvement within production
  • Ensure 6S set-up on the line maintained
  • Ensure Production Engineering-related tasks assigned by Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee are implemented

Attend the following meetings as required:

  • Operations Team meeting
  • Engineering Team/ECN/RTM meeting
  • Ad-hoc improvement meetings
  • 8D Quality meetings

DIRECT REPORTS: 2 Production Engineers

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Owning and improving multiple consumer-product production lines
  • Managing and developing technical staff (Production Engineers)
  • Deploying automation (PLC) on production line
  • Reducing cycle times, improving ergonomics and safety on the line
  • Degree in Industrial/Manufacturing/Electronics/Process Engineering or similar
  • Can demonstrate use of Engineering and Production best practices such as process change control, Engineering change control, 6S, Lean, Continuous Improvement, 5 why's, time studies, release-to-manufacturing (RTM), process failure mode effect analysis (PFMEA), new product introduction (NPI)
  • Ability to use Solidworks to design jigs
  • Ability to use ERP system
  • Ability to use CNC machine an asset
