About the Opportunity

As our VP of Sales & Marketing, you will plan and lead the development of all corporate Sales & Marketing activities and resources across all product, geographic, market and customer sectors toward strategic objectives. This includes responsibility for developing and implementing Shearwater’s Brand management and market positioning, Demand planning and product pricing, Commercial sales channel distribution strategy and management structure (both B2B and future B2C), Military and Public Safety Business Development, and Customer Care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Key Result #1: Develop multi year Strategic Brand Marketing and Growth Plan

Develop a multi year plan that supports the vision for our Brand  around the world, combined with the market analysis, product line and development alignment, and pricing strategies to drive channel growth that meets annual budget revenue and margin objectives.

  • Corporately aligned strategic Brand marketing and communications plan for both our commercial and government markets
  • Effective management of market, customer or socio-economic trends to enhance the organizations opportunities.
  • Plans and directs product and product-line and life-cycle management, including the market research, brand management, and product development disciplines

Key Result #2: Business Development

Plans and leads the direction of Government Programs to grow and expand market channel and represents Shearwater in key relationships with major customers, trade associations and the community at large.

  • Develops and executes the Government Programs and Research sales plan and forecasts
  • Oversees all major direct contract opportunities, proposals and bid tendering processes for Shearwater Research.
  • Alliances with community stakeholders and establishes relationships with key individuals throughout the customer network to ensure our positioning is maximised for the acquisition and execution of major contracts.

Key Result #3: Strategic Go to Market

Leads strategic marketing activities in support of commercial product line launches. Delivering Sell-In and Sell Through Strategies and Tactics for the Seasonal Selling period.

  • Sell Through: Collaborating with Operations, to create an Integrated Demand Creation Plan that includes Seasonal Promotion(s), Social Media Campaign(s), In-store Merchandising Assets and Plans, Trade Training & Marketing, Omni Channel Assets

Key Result #4: Digital Strategy

Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure crisp omni-presence in today’s marketplace. As a steward for the corporate website, ensure that consumer’s experience is enhanced via story-telling consistent with overall brand. Through design and management of internal and external stakeholders, ensure consistency in seasonal GTM campaigns and product messaging.

  • Directs all marketing programs including sponsorships, promotions, tradeshows, website, social media, media, to generate brand equity and sell through of product collections in Shearwater’s target markets, including support for Government programs.
  • Works with Sales team to identify opportunities to improve customer partnerships through development and execution of sales, cooperative marketing, and merchandising programs.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree(s) in Business Administration, Marketing & Sales supplemented by 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in GoTo Market planning and strategic Brand /digital program management.
  • Minimum of 3 years management experience is essential. This experience is preferably with a sales and marketing team participating in concurrent multiple niche markets.
  • At least 3 years experience in a technical or engineered product environment
  • Sound understanding of the S&OP process and key performance metrics - experience in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience marketing to a regulated industry and /or military and government markets is strongly desired
  • Experience in the diving/marine industry is very desirable.

The successful candidate is a calm under pressure problem solver, who builds effective team relationships through honest and well thought out communication to get the job done and brings:

  • Passionate about Diving, the Shearwater brand and its product, and a desire to deliver exceptional customer experiences
  • Strong marketing knowledge and analytical skills including a demonstrated capability in the area of market research
  • Demonstrated comprehension and management experience of sales force management in a fast growth company; experience with mixed channel (B2B and B2C environments) is desirable
  • Advanced comprehension and deep practical experience of business operations
  • Strong background in business with design, manufacturing and after sales service models
  • Outstanding conceptual capabilities: ability to convert the business strategy into highly actionable and innovative marketing plans and programs that is easily translated to our Supply organization requirements
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to represents the company with a high level of professionalism – from the boardroom to the trade show floor to the dive locker
  • Excellent internal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead and positively influence people in interactions at all levels within an organization.
  • Ability to work under pressure of multiple concurrent priorities and deadlines; strong scheduling and project management skills.
  • Ability to build and facilitate strong cross-functional work teams.
  • Demonstrated ability and toolbox to lead, coach, motivate and counsel reports of both a front-line and management level
  • Excellent command of the English Language, written and verbal.
  • Proficient in with equipment and software tools including but limited to MS Office tools, Business Intelligence tools and a variety of ERP systems
  • Strong technical support skills relative to multi-media projects, including website maintenance
