Shearwater Cloud Open Beta
RICHMOND, British Columbia – March 24, 2017 – Shearwater Research Inc. is excited to announce that Shearwater Cloud is now available as an Open Beta. With cloud computing Shearwater divers will be able to link their network of mobile devices and share information between them.
With Shearwater Cloud you are able to review and edit your dive logs with more descriptive fields than in Shearwater Desktop. Additionally, the app is also capable of performing firmware updates and changing the language in your dive computer. For Shearwater users that have been experiencing issues connecting to Shearwater Desktop with Windows 7, the Shearwater Cloud addresses this problem.
The app is currently supported for iOS (10.0+) and Android (5.0+) and compatible with the Perdix AI, Perdix, and Petrel 2 dive computers. The desktop version of Shearwater Cloud for Windows and Mac will be released in the future which will offer additional support to Petrel 1, Predator, and NERD.
Shearwater Cloud is available for download immediately on the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store is currently pending approval and will be available shortly. You can navigate to either of these downloads by visiting Shearwater’s website or visiting the store on your device.
If you experience any bugs, crashes, or connection issues, or are interested in giving feedback to the development team, please send them through ScubaBoard, our Feedback Form, or email beta@shearwater.com.
Hello,
In the future is the Petrel 1 will be also supported (shearwater cloud) ?
Best regards,
Hi Thomas,
The Petrel 1 will be supported by the desktop portion of Shearwater Cloud.
I think my Petrel has become self aware and I’m afraid that if it reaches the cloud it could learn at a geometric rate and retaliate if I try to pull the plug. Today’s GF inputs could lead to judgment day.
Hi John, we cannot guarantee that your computer won’t become self aware. However, it was built in Canada so hopefully it will be very polite.
That’s hilarious. If it was Canadian it was apologize for being self aware and it would never vote for trump.
Downloaded app..turned on my Samsung Bluetooth mode…phone can see Perdix..put dive computer on upload..searching..but unable to connect the 2 devices?
Hi Tom, send us an email to info@shearwater.com so we can get you in touch with tech support.
Hi , will it be possible to add dive sites photos, dive photos, have maps and have possibility to add ways points of the dive site, showing gps coordinate on that maps?
Hi Steve, these are possible future implementations for the app. At the moment the development team is focusing on getting the basic functions working solidly. We want to make sure we have a solid foundation before we build in more features. If you do have any specific feature requests or suggestions though definitely send an email to beta@shearwater.com and let our development team know.
Once the desktop version of Shearwater Cloud is made available, will it be possible to upload from the Perel 1 via a Windows PC to the Cloud and then download those dives to the App on an Android device
.
Hi Andy, yes that will be possible!
Is the iOS app only available on the us App Store?
I cannot seem to find it in the Germany App Store.
Thx a lot, Yannis
Hi Yannis, we’re through the approval process and are in the queue to be uploaded to the app store. Apple told us this could take up to 24 hours so hopefully it’ll ready to download tomorrow!
So I’m guessing that we won’t be able to use this for those of us that have the Predator on our CCR’s. It obviously works on the Desktop, but the app won’t support it? Neither will the cloud?
Hi Chris, The Predator will be able to connect to the desktop and from there have access to the cloud. You will be able to upload your Predator dive logs from the Cloud and look at them on your mobile device.
Will the app be compatible with the desktop version, so dives can be updated to the app or desktop and vice versa? Are you planning on making the desktop version compatible with the cloud as well?
Hi Leon, the Shearwater Cloud app and the Shearwater Cloud desktop will be linked together. If you upload dives onto your Shearwater Cloud desktop and then upload to the cloud, they will then appear on your phone and vise versa. When Shearwater Cloud for desktop comes out you will be able to migrate all your past dives from Shearwater Desktop to Shearwater Cloud.
when will desktop cloud be released ?
Hi Helmut, we’re planning on going into BETA for the desktop portion of Shearwater Cloud in Summer of 2017.
Hi!
Still want feedback on it?
My Perdix AI is set to Celsius and when I use the cloud on my iOS set on Celsius it seems to convert from Fahrenheit again. Setting the cloud app to F, it shows the temp correctly from Celsius, but with F as unit.
Hi Johan, we always want to hear feedback! Thanks for letting us know, we’ve added this bug to our “known issues” list. Let us know if you have any other feedback!
Just set up the Cloud and downloaded the software update to my new Perdix and downloaded the test dive. everything worked great. Used the iOS app on an iPhone 7. I will give my Petrel 2 a try when I get home tonight.
Will this work for the NERD too? I was having some trouble with the latest update on the NERD. It keeps stopping about half way through.
Chuck
Hi Chuck, the NERD will not connect with the Shearwater Cloud app. It will however be able to connect with the desktop portion of Shearwater Cloud. You will then be able to sync your dives to the cloud and view them on all your devices.
When do you estimate that the Shearwater Desktop Cloud be available for download for Mac/Windows?
Hi Vegard, we are planning on going into BETA for the desktop portion for the summer of 2017.
Before I authorize access to my device would you please advise the purpose of requesting access to the following:
Device Location
Contacts
Make and Manage Phone calls
I did permit access to files, as that seems justifiable. The other may be justifiable as well I would just like to know what the justification is before I permit it.
Hi Ron, the reason we ask for all permissions because it is required for Bluetooth to connect to the app. We do not collect or review any information from your contacts or make and manage phone calls. If you still have concerns though please send us an email to privacy@shearwater.com.
I have downloaded the cloud android app on my samsung TAB S2 as well as my Samsung Galaxy S7. On both devices they see the perdix, but when I click on ‘scan for dive computer’ and then úpload log’ on the perdix nothing happens. Please advise, thank you
Hi Mark, our development team has sent you an email on this!
Just connected to Cloud, Brilliant….. Updated my Firmware, downloaded All my logs – Very nice Shearwater
I uploaded dives from the perdix to my phone just after I finished a dive. This is ok for keeping track, but I would like to be able to link this info from the cloud to the desktop logbook at the end of a day or after a period of time. Later I would like to be able to open the file on my desktop, and look at it or output it, in a logbook format. I need to keep a log of dives, and print the dive logs periodically. Ideally I would like to have a “pdf” file type that can be output from the program (either desktop or cloud or both) for accounting purposes. If the iPad/iphone format could be linked with the desktop, and the dive log outputted as a standardized flat file with all necessary info for record keeping, I think you would have a strong and versatile digital ecosystem for easy record keeping, maintaining logs, and sharing dive information with employers of trainers or dive buddies. Maybe that is the way it supposed to work now, but I have not been able to do so. Is this something that will come in future?
Hello Corey,
It is our full intention to create a Cloud Desktop app that you can use to print Dives, and sync with your phone. This application is still in development and is not available yet to the public.
Our current planned features for the Cloud are listed here: https://www.shearwater.com/cloud-goals/
If you have any other questions, please email us at: info@shearwater.com or if you run into problem connecting to the cloud app, please message us at: beta@shearwater.com
I am wondering if there is any update on when desktop cloud will be available? The Perdix AI is brilliant.
Hi Steven, I’m glad you’re enjoying the Perdix AI. We are still aiming for around the end of the Summer for the desktop portion of Shearwater Cloud.
Do you have a release date for connecting Shearwater Desktop to the Cloud. It seems a little crazy to have to maintain 2 sets of dive logs – one on android and osx and a 2nd for my windows desktop. I have 2 android devices and 2 windows computers. It would be really cool to have the same dive data on all 4 devices.
Hi Tom, we’re working to have Shearwater Cloud (desktop) launched around the end of the Summer. Soon syncing between all your devices will be a breeze! Thanks for your patience Tom!
Is it possible to see uplodet cloud dives in the desktop software, I have a windows7 Pro laptop witch is not connecting to the Perdix but a Iphone that will. Also send a email but this post might help others as wel.
Hi Jan, there is no way to upload Cloud dives to Shearwater Desktop. When we launch Shearwater Cloud (desktop) you will be able to move dives from Shearwater Desktop to Shearwater Cloud (desktop). You can only move the files one way. Let me know if this helps Jan!
I have a Samsung galaxy S8 and Petrel 2 with all the updates. my phone can see the Petrel but the software will not download the logs or connect.
Hello.
Why it is not possible to connect from Desktop-software to the cloud.
It it just a new menue in software with a mail-connection.
So i can easily send my dives to the cloud from my phone in my holiday, and when i am home,
i can just downlaod from the cloud.
THAT WERE BE GREAT !!!
