Shearwater Firmware v53 Is Now Available
Shearwater Firmware v53 is now available. Update your Perdix, Petrel, and NERD 2 to ensure you have the latest features.
Highlights:
- New "Stack Timer" (CO2 scrubber duration timer) feature. The Stack Timer is only available in Closed Circuit (CC) modes. The Stack Timer counts down when diving. It is manually reset by the user when changing the scrubber stack. The total time can be changed by the user. The warning at 1hr00min and alert at 0hr30min are fixed.
- The in-computer dive log now displays start and end tank pressures and average SAC.
- XCCR users can now enjoy CO2 sensor support. Reports CO2 as the partial pressure of CO2 (PPCO2) in millibar. Alarms when PPCO2 is greater than 5 mbar. Allows user to calibrate the CO2 with a user specified parts-per-million (ppm). For example, in fresh outdoor air a value of 400 ppm should be used.

The greatest dive computers ever made… thank you Shearwater….
Is there an update for the NERD?
Hi, John. v53 applies to NERD 2. At this point we do not have an update for the firmware of the original NERD.
My iPad Air 2, and my iPhone share Shearwater dive data using the Shearwater app. How do I share that entered data on my Windows 10 Shearwater program?
Hi, John. If you are referring moving dive information from Shearwater Desktop and into Shearwater Cloud, there is indeed a way to do so. From Shearwater Desktop on Windows 10 go to File>Backup Database… and select a location to save your ShearwaterDesktop.db file. If you haven’t done so yet, install Shearwater Cloud Beta on your Windows computer. You can get the installer files here: https://www.shearwater.com/cloud-downloads/. After installation open Shearwater Cloud Beta and click on the “Import” icon seen on the upper left hand corner and select “Import Shearwater Desktop Database”. This will allow you to select the ShearwaterDesktop.db file you saved earlier. After importing the file, and if you haven’t done so yet, sign in to you Shearwater Cloud account with the same credentials you use in your iPhone and iPad. Then click on the “Sync” icon seen on the upper right hand corner of the screen. Finally go to your iPhone and iPad and sync them and your dive information will be in all your devices.
Thanks Shearwater-Is the same procedure available for MacOS too?
Hello, Mark. Yes, you can move your dives from Shearwater Desktop to Shearwater Cloud Beta using the same procedure.
Hey John-
Shearwater support might be able to help you better on this question. I had asked the same last summer and at that time, the desktop app and the cloud/mobile apps were not able to sync. In effect, you’ll need to upload the data into the desktop app.
I believe this is something shearwater has been working on but I’ve not seen a desktop update for a while.
Admittedly, it would be a nice to have but since all/most of the data can be viewed and sync’d on the mobile platforms, I’m pretty happy. I don’t often find myself bringing along my laptop on trips. That’s just me. I could easily see people doing that, however. Given data and video from other devices like GoPro, Garmin etc.

Hi Shearwater,
will the “Stack timer” feature become available on the Predator as well?
Regards
Joern
Hi, Joern. Unfortunately that feature will not be available on the Predator.
Hi. Where can i see the stacktime in my shearwater cloud or desktop?
Hello, Manuel. At this time stack time is not available on either Shearwater Cloud nor on Shearwater Desktop. I have logged in your question as a feature request. Feedback from our customers plays a big role on the development of new features. While we cannot guarantee we will implement every request, we do take all of them into consideration.
Hi. Thank you for your feedback. It would be really nice, if all new features were transmitted to your software 🙂 looking forward to get the stacktime soon. Best regards.
Hello, Will this uppdate be avaliable for the nerd aswell?
Hi, Anes. Yes, version 53 is available for the NERD 2. You can read about the firmware version and the update instructions here: https://www.shearwater.com/support/nerd-2/
Hello!
I’m wondering about the first nerd 🙂
Thanks!
Hey guys, one question… Is the Petrel 1 still supported? I know you guys release firmware updates for Perdix and Petrel 2 but I am not 100% sure if Petrel 1 is still covered on these. (It looks like yes, but since I know they both have hardware differences I just want to make sure)
Thanks!
Hello, Andres. The v53 update covers all Petrel versions including Petrel 1. Cheers.
