We apologize to users currently experiencing certificate issues when trying to update to the latest version (3.0.8) of Shearwater Desktop. Our developers have managed to attribute this particular issue to Adobe AIR.
For those unfamiliar with Adobe AIR, which stands for Adobe Integrated Runtime, it is a basically a runtime system upon which Shearwater Desktop is built with. Through AIR, it allows developers to create desktop applications so users can install it on their Mac and Window computers.
Unfortunately, it’s been known that Adobe software does not play nice with Mac OS at times. We’ve reached out to Adobe regarding this issue and their suggested solution was to simply re-install Shearwater Desktop. This will not be an issue once we release the Desktop version for Shearwater Cloud as we use a different runtime system to build Shearwater Cloud. The planned release is for Spring of 2017.
In the meantime, the workaround to updating to v3.0.8 is to uninstall the current version first. The full instructions can be found here.
From the instructions, it is really important that users perform these 2 crucial steps:
- Empty the trash bin after dragging Shearwater Desktop into it
- Follow steps 4 -7 after installing Shearwater Desktop to successfully open the application
If after following these steps you are still experiencing issues, feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
