Issue Solved - Shearwater Desktop & Windows 10 Creator’s Update
The issue described below has been solved. Please go the downloads page and install the latest version of Shearwater Desktop. If, after doing this, you still have problems connecting, it might be a hardware conflict related to a built in bluetooth in your computer. A common fix is to disable the built in bluetooth through Windows Device Manager and then use the Shearwater supplied bluetooth dongle to connect. If you are unsure of how to safely disable the built in bluetooth driver, please do not hesitate to contact us at techsupport@shearwater.com and we will help you out.
We have identified an issue with Windows 10 Creator’s Update that prevents Shearwater Desktop from connecting to Perdix AI and some Perdix computers.
It’s been confirmed by Microsoft that the latest update has caused some issues with Bluetooth. If you would like additional information, this article provides more context.
We are investigating solutions to this issue which may require a Windows update, and we will post an update as soon as we can. In the mean-time, please check out our Shearwater Cloud App, available for Android and iPhone. It is capable of downloading dive logs, updating firmware, and syncing your dives to your other mobile devices.
You can find out if you have this update by doing the following:
- Go to your Start Menu on your PC and type winver. Click on the icon with the same name
- You will see a window like this:
Look at the Version Number. If you have version 1703 , you have the Windows 10 Creators Update that is known to have issues.
For further information, please contact us.
There has been numerous reports and teviews of the android app not being able to accurately process dives in degrees Celsius. Has there been progress on this issue?
Hi Ian, we are currently working on this issue and it should be fixed in our next update. Thanks for your patience.
Any update on Bluetooth connectivity with Shearwater Perdix AI? I have the Creators update running on a Surface 4. I had hoped the last patch Tuesday would have fixed the issue. However, it did not.
Hi Scott, unfortunately this is a Microsoft issue that we don’t have much control over. We are monitoring whether MSFT puts out a fix for it though.
If I’m not wrong, after downloading the dive logs with Shearwater Desktop, there is no indication for the current ascent or descent rate that, in my opinion, could be useful.
Furthermore, if I could set initial and final pressure for the gas used during the dive, could be useful to have an indication for the average consumption rate for each gas (i.e. bottom gas, deco gas one, etc..).
Could you consider to add these features in a future version of Shearwater Desktop?
Regards.
Hi Sergio, you can set the initial and final pressures for your gases in the Shearwater Cloud App. You cannot do this is Shearwater Desktop but when we release the Shearwater Cloud for the desktop you will also be able to edit those values on your PC or Mac.
I’m also happy to pass along your suggestion for the ascent and descent rate! If you ever have any other recommendations or questions feel free to shoot us an email to info@shearwater.com!
Hi,
The desktop software does not display partial pressures correct. For instance at 5.3m it display 1.1 O2, -0.2 He, -0.4 N2
This was already spoted once….but no fix for it… Or explain what does numbers mean…
Cannot connect Perdix due do W10 creators update. Problem is known. Can Shearwater solve this or is it still a Windows issue?
Hi Martin, unfortunately this is still a Windows issue and there isn’t much that can be done on our end. Our developers are keeping an eye out to see if Windows puts out any changes specifically addressing the Bluetooth Low Energy. In the meantime Shearwater Cloud is a good alternative. I hope this helps Martin and sorry for the inconvenience.
If we don’t get this Windows 10 issue sorted out soon, how will we be able upgrade to new firmware when it is released? Are you putting pressure on Microsoft to come up with a solution? At the moment I am regretting moving from Petrel 2 to Perdix.
Hi Tim, thanks for your patience. We’ve put out a patch for this issue. Please go the downloads page and install the latest version of Shearwater Desktop to patch this issue.
Yes – Small dive computer manufacturer, throw your weight around against the mighty MS Monolith. They are the Ma Bell of our era, i.e. They don’t care, they don’t have to. Shearwater is not the only manufacturer that has to deal with Microsoft’s code issues with Windows 10. In short, don’t hold your breath.
I just got my perdix. I also have windows 10 creator edition – and on this i have several bluetooth devices functional, mouse, headset, keyboard, android phone. It seems very strange that you are unable to make your systems functional in windows 10? Are you using some special functions that are not needed on the other bluetooth devices?.
I am also struggeling on a mac os x. And i have reset the nvram as indicated. Still it does not show up as a bluetooth device (which it should not either) but i cannot get a connection from the desktop applicaton. So the only place i managed to get a bluetooth connection is from my android.
Hi Petter, we just released a new version of Shearwater Desktop to address the Windows 10 Bluetooth Low Energy problem. You can find the latest download on the Shearwater Desktop downloads page. Try downloading it and let us know if you’re still having issues.
I updated the new version, but still have the same issue.
I have the latest version 3.14 and Win 10 Creator and am not able to connect to the Perdix to do the firmware update
Hi, my computer updated itself overnight and I now can not download my dive logs from my Perdix A1, I have the latest version of shearwater desktop and still getting the 175 error code. If you could offer any help to solve this issue it would be greatly appreciated
Still doesn’t work….it gets really annoying
